I own a Vivitar 1 800mm f/11 solid cat and need a front lens cap for it. I believe the threads are 101 millimeters and that means nobody makes a snap cap that fits. What did this lens come with in terms of front caps? Thank you.

Vince

Any thoughts guys ?

What is a solid cat? Shocked

Some lens hood caps such as for Sonnar 180 CZJ are larger than this, but very hard to find.
The only option seems to build a cardboard one.
There are two ways, one is cut round shape first from lens rim, then cut another stripe of flexible cardboard and fix it around the round shape, this is the less invasive solution but also less safe.
Else, cut the round shape, then put on two opposite edges of it, two velcro stripes, and attach to the lens rim, two pieces of velcro receiver. Of course a?glueing things on a lens is never a nice thing to do so perhaps solution 1 is better.

The cap for the CZJ Sonnar 180 MC with hood is 112mm while one for the lens itself without the step-up ring is 90mm the same as for the Flek 4/50.

B+W make large push fit caps as part of their range but you may have to do bit of digging to find them as most sellers of B+W seem to list them as special order.

The first two or three digits of the description are the diameter and 'E' is push-on:

Solid catadioptric lens. Basically, it's a mirror telephoto with a "solid" design, i.e. no air spaces between the glass elements (mirrors and lenses). This leads to a very compact design, although rather heavy for a mirror lens.

Cheers!

A friend uses the top from a plastic cottage cheese container. He spray painted it gloss black! It works perfectly on his Rubinar 500 mirror lens. Maybe something similar to that could be found.
