Hi MF folks. I'm interested in learning from you which are the first third party preset lenses for SLR cameras. I gathered a couple of mostly Vivitars 35mm from around late 1960s and try to look for more. I know about the early Takumars but my question today is about third party's. Thanks a lot.

It depends on your definition of "third party" ... There are quite a few German preset lenses for the early German SRLs. Zeiss lenses for Zeiss Contax SLR wouldn't be "third party" of course, but the same Zeiss lens for an Igahee Exakta SLR might well be considered as "third party" (Igahee was independent from Zeiss). I have, for instance, a Zeiss Sonnar 2.8/180 (1949) for the Exakta. It is "preset", and it is "third party" too ...

I'm sure there are earlier Zeiss preset lenses for the Exakta, though.

Tamron had an interesting example in this area, their 135mm f/4.5 'Twin-Tele', which was supplied with a matching tele-converter making it a 225mm f/7.7. This was supplied with T-mounts (not T2 mounts) for both Exakta and M42. As a 135mm it is ridiculously compact, especially when compared to the Zeiss Triotar 135mm f/4 Smile

On the left, the Zeiss, on the right, the Tamron.

I think this is the most beautiful 135mm preset lens.

Thanks to all of you. No real breakthrough here, but you reminded me of some makers, like Komura and the german manufacturers. I got more searching material.
The Quinar looks gorgeous indeed. To find another one in this condition??? 🤔
I do have some of the lenses mentionned, like the MOG or the Meritar. I like the Vivitars and Soligors a lot and they are the culprits for my taste for these goldies. (AFAIK, Tamron or Tokina made mostly)
Thanks again. Hopefully we'll enjoy more inputs.

Yes Sankyo Kohki (Koki) Komura were one of the most prolific post war, making lenses for numerous makes and formats.
35mm, 645, 6x6, 6x7, 4X5 come to mind.
They are also quite beautifully made and produce lovely rendering.
Here is a listing of others that may contain some that you are looking for:

EDIT: The earliest Komura F3.5 lenses with chrome finish from the mid 1950s are not pre-set lenses but they seems only made for rangfinder cameras. The pre-set SLR lenses with black finish are made in the early 1960s.

BTW, the chrome Steinheil Cassarit 50/2.8 is also a pre-set lens. It is pretty hard to find nowadays.
