Which camera and lens does Jake Gittes use on the rooftop to photograph Hollis Mulwray and his mysterious young woman at the beginning of the movie Chinatown (1974)?

It's clearly a Leica camera with a long telephoto lens. I read somewhere that the lens is a Telyt, but to me it looks more like a 135mm Hektor or something. I'm no Leica expert, so I'm wondering it anyone knows for sure.

This question has been bothering me for some time.

It's shown in the movie trailer...yes, looks like a 135mm. Smile

This one I would say it is a Telyt 20cm F4.5 although is is designed for Visoflex. The big aperture ring is a feature of the Telyt 200 and the name "Wetzlar" are on the front. For pops, you can use anything attachable to the camera.

Indeed, Telyt 200/4,5, of course in an inappropriate configuration fitted on the camera without the Visoflex, and paired to a 35/135 viewfinder

Nice!

Thanks for the assistance. This question has been bugging me for a long time.

I knew 20cm Telyt was a Visoflex lens, so I think that contributed to my confusion.
