Steinheil Munchen Auto D Quinar 135mm f2.8 (the little guy!)

Recently got this little guy off eBay. It was in dire need of tender loving care....after some basic cleaning and TLC, this new acquisition turned out to be a great lens. Its really tiny for a 135mm lens (the littlest 135 that I have ever used). What has me really stumped is that the lens has only 5 bladed aperture, where all the information points to this lens having 7 blades. Maybe a prototype? (Its M42 / Edixa mount)

If anyone has any knowledge about it, please step forward!

Nice pictures.
This might be of some help- I have a silver quinon 2.8/135, and it has 10 blades.
I also have an Auto-D-quinar 2.8/35 (black version with red D, like your 2.8/135) and it only has 5 blades.
I do not know this, but perhaps the red "D" version is a later version with better coating, but fewer blades. Just an assumption.
Also, I know it's a 3.5, but the early Takumar 3.5/135 is ultimate compact 135 IMO, and I love it.
My silver 2.8/135 is huge and heavy, seems that yours is more compact. There it is compared to an Orestor and the Takumar.




Either way, looks like a very nice lens with great performance. Steinheil lenses are great IMO. I'm already regretting putting my 1.9/55 Quinon for sale.

Thanks StillSanj. That perhaps explains the 5 blades, though surprisingly there is no info on this anywhere on the net. This lens shows as 7 blades everywhere I looked - perhaps a difference between Exacta and Exida (M42) mount?

Another interesting observation is that there is an A/M switch, however there is no Automatic coupling at the back of the Exida mount. There is a little screw hole for perhaps connecting a shutter release type of cable on the side of the lens and I suspect the A is for that...

It reminds me my Edixa Schneider Kreuznach Xenar 2.8/50 which has the same feature :

I suspect one prong from this dual type of shutter release cable must go in that slot for stopping down the lens in A Mode at the time a taking the image. Am i right in my assumption?

Has anyone repaired this lens before? I'm trying to remove the M42 mount, but can't lift it over the aperture port on the side. Any ideas?

***Update, was able to remove the aperture port first and then lift off the mount.
