Hi, I have a Robot camera that I have been unable to identify. I can see that it is a Robot Star II Luftwaffen Eigentum but I don't know what the front section is. Were these used for a specific purpose by the German Air Force? Thanks for any help you could provide.

Some info here:

The cylinder on top is a spring-wound advance mechanism. The contraption on the front looks to me like a remote controlled solenoid-operated shutter release.

Here is some comment from the dancuny page above:

"Recently I had (and sold) the rarest Robot - the 375. Basically a Robot 2 embedded in a double spring body with a ten metre cassette. It was designed to be mounted in the tail plane of a Stuka dive bomber - the pilot would release the bomb (which he had to or he couldn't pull out of the dive) and then would fire off a few shots backwards as he escaped to record the strike, or miss. He had a button in the cockpit which triggered a solenoid on the top of the camera."

This may be a different model camera, but it may have seen similar use.
