Hi All,

For my own reference I maintain spreadsheets with lists of lenses of many of the major players in the film era. I just noticed a variant of a Soligor lens that is not listed on the Apotelyt website (https://www.apotelyt.com/camera-kit/soligor-catalog): a (what I call) "2 ring" version of the 70-160mm 3.5 with separate focus and zoom rings.

Checking eBay I can indeed find both the "1 ring" (push-pull) type that Apotelyt lists, as well as this 2 ring version.

It is my understanding that the way the Soligor serial numbers work is that the first digit is a code for the manufacturer (9 = Kobori) and the next two digits are the year. That would suggest the 1-ring version was made in (at least) 1979 and the 2-ring version in 1980.

Info on the 70-160 is somewhat scarce and considering what they sell for on eBay it looks like these are unpopular lenses.

Anyone have any info? I am curious, because I prefer 2-ring zooms over the push-pull type and I like the 75-150 zoom range.

Regards, C.

Just came across this topic: http://forum.mflenses.com/better-specs-on-cpc-mc-70-162mm-auto-zoom-f-3-5-t64002.html

about a CPC 70-162mm lens. I suspect this is the same lens as the Soligor 70-160, looks very similar to me judging by the pictures.

Regards, C.

Just checking, are you sure the lens is 70-160mm and not 70-150mm as in Click here to see on Ebay?

Very sure Smile

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144125305319
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382950780659

In both examples you can read the "70-160" on the front and see that it is a 2 ring zoom with separate focus and zoom rings.

I suspect it is the same lens as this CPC 70-162:

The serial on the first Soligor signifies it was made by Kobori I believe the is also a two ring variant of the Kiron made Vivitar 70-150mm. Plenty on Ebay and they are nice: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=vivitar+70-150mm&_sacat=0

Dunno what's more important for you - optical excellence or 2-ring-mechanism. If optical quality is more important, both the Canon nFD 4.5/70-150mm as well as the Minolta MD 4/75-150mm are really good (at leat for a vintage zoom).

Regarding your list I'd also encourage you to post it sometime. 😊
And you may help with my question (out of topic...)
I came across a lens listing in Colorphoto mag from 1973, and they list the common Soligor 200 f3,5, the 250 f4,5 and right underneath a 250 f3,5 (yes 3,5...). I googled that one with ZERO results. You may have some info regarding that one? Thanks Like 1 small

The other day I received a Vivitar 70-150mm 3.8 "2-ring" zoom in FD mount. It has some very slight cloudiness on the inside but not enough to send it back over.

My initial impression is that it is very soft at 3.8, especially at 150mm. However, stop it down to 5.6 and everything changes. Very sharp and contrasty. Quite a bit heavier than my Olympus OM 75-150, but optics wise to my amateur eyes it would be a close run thing which one is better (my OM 75-150 is a very high serial number as these go which might help, and perhaps I got lucky and have a good one?).

As for posting my lists, on the one hand I have no problems in sharing these with anyone who might find them useful. And it is almost certain that the combined minds here will have more insight than I do. On the other hand I am concerned I will get yelled at for missing lenses, duplications, errors, unclear formatting, etc. So please keep in mind that I created these strictly for my own reference. Almost all of the information is what I have collected from various internet sources, some of it conflicting.

I can't upload *.xls or *.ods files to this forum right?

Regards, C.

The softness wide open is one of the things I like about it. The slightly glowy rendering is very nice and the painterly bokeh too.
