Well I have now made it ''Through" about a dozen lenses, and so far, they all have gone back together and work better than when I started. This isn't to say that they are perfect. My last two lenses, were a Leica-R 60mm with a disengaged focus ring, and a Summicron-R V1 50 F2. The Macro works perfectly and I didnt need to touch the optical block. The Summicron, I got ''Stuck" on getting the optical block out of the housing, and wasn't able to clean all of the fungus and haze. I have also gotten stuck on a Canon 85 F1.8 Rangefinder, A Nikon 35 2.5 rangefinder. not figuring out how to get the optical block apart.
I have seen a number of posts on this forum with mechanical lens drawings. I am wondering is there is a book that contains these drawings or if they are from personal collections? Books on general lens repair would also be great. I do watch Youtube and look for disassembly videos of the lens I have or similar ones from the same maker, but this isn't always that helpful. On the Summicron V1. the guts of this 1964 video were very different from what was shown..
Thanks again for any info. _________________ A7R4, GFX50R and a bucket of mflenses |

Factory service/technical guides, manuals, and references appear on ebay now and again...surely as an Engineer you already know what to look for -- have at it or wait for lists of what members have or know about. You might also use a search engine to search mflenses and the rest of the internet... _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

There are some Info in Internet, I would recommend the following pages (to mention only few):
https://learncamerarepair.com/index.php (more about the cameras)
http://pakira3.sakura.ne.jp/ (many different lenses, google on this site, it can be nicely translated online)
https://richardhaw.com (many Nikon)
http://minolta.eazypix.de/lr/indexLR.html (Minolta)
or simply google for repair or dissasembly of a specific lens model. There are really tons of information online.
I have seen some books from Thomas Thomosy but they are mostly about repair of cameras... There are also some russian books about rangefinders where initial info on lens repair is also given.
I would also recommend to remember that it is better to send a lens for the professional repair sometimes |

Thanks for the replies, I do Google and Youtube, but it doesn't seem to find many of the foreign sites.
I think my interest seems to be gravitating to the lenses of the 50's and 60's particularly zeiss and Leica, with the occasional Schneider thrown in.
I also fully understand that many lenses will be beyond my ability, the approach I have been taking is to start in, and always be able to back out if I cant DIY it.
I frankly didn't even think to look at Ebay, nothing now but will save the search. _________________ A7R4, GFX50R and a bucket of mflenses |

Thanks Max78! That first link is awesome! So is Richard Haw's site. This link may be more useful https://richardhaw.com/lens-repair-articles/ However http://pakira3.sakura.ne.jp/ gives 403 forbidden error to me. _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮
