Some 100-105mm lenses and zooms :

Boyer lenses lack of contrast, but I have a doubt about my bellows.
Taks 105/2.8, especially the S-M-C, are very contrasty.
Zooms are a strong surprise, I would not have expected these results from them !

Thank you so much for these Takumar comparisons!

Wow that 6x7 2.4/105 sure looks good wide open compared to others stopped down.

The Boyers look identical?

The 45-125 is no slouch.

The 6X7 lens is good, yes. Every 6X7 lens seems good on FF (same for 400/4 and I expect the 150/2.8 to be good too, I need to process the comparison in which I used it).
The two Boyer lenses are different. One is in M39 mount and is bigger than the other (despite being 100/4.5 like the other), while the smaller one was in something different, so I glued it on a 5mm M42 macro ring.

Slouch ?

Yes the 105 P67 lens is a beauty and much sought after.
I have a Boyer Topaz 105/4.5 which is a beautiful portrait lens, as its rendering at this distance is so suited to it.
And yet it can produce beautiful sharp crisp images when used close up as well.
Mine is a simple triplet and an enlarger lens of course

Some 80-200 / 70-210mm zooms are excellent at about 120mm focal length. The Zeiss CY 4/80-200mm comes to my mind (very sharp, no CAs, nearly no distortion: better than the CY 2.8/135mm), the Canon nFD 4/80-200mm L, the Minolta / Leitz 4/70-210mm ... all are better than the contemporary 2.8/135mm primes from the same manufacturer!

But none of these zooms can achieve f/2.8 aperture Very Happy That's why I do not use them...

Yes, of course Wink ...

For "high res" work - landscapes, architectural details, and close focus stuff Iusually use either a zoom (AF 2.8/70-200 or MF 4/80-200) or a f2.8 100mm or 105mm macro lens. And for portraits I choose between a 1.8/105mm, a 2/135mm or a 2.8/200mm. Therefore 2.8/135mm primes are rarely an option - and that's why they probably more or less have disappeared from the market ...
