Using an older 300mm mirror lens + UV filter for a monochrome look...

Is this a u/v pass filter, blocking visible light?

I'm just getting into some aspects of "pictorialism", (though I hadn't realised it was called that), using some of the "Custom Image" facilities in my Pentax cameras. At the moment the "Watercolor" and "Pastel" options are capturing my enthusiasm, but they're not well documented. Part of the experimentation is finding a subject that responds well to the "treatment" Wink

Yes, reflected UV using a UV transmitting, but IR blocking filter.

Have you read about pictorialism?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictorialism

Seems we a have a different understanding of this Wink

From that wiki page "There is no standard definition of the term, but in general it refers to a style in which the photographer has somehow manipulated what would otherwise be a straightforward photograph as a means of "creating" an image rather than simply recording it."

Admittedly, my example isn't monochrome, but other than that it has been manipulated (using the tools available to me in the camera) to give an image which represents reality without imitating it.

We can agree to differ on terminology ... we both like making pictures Wink

I've got a B&W UV-pass filter https://www.galleon.ph/electronics-c879/accessories-c2512/skylight-uv-filters-c13086/b-w-58mm-uv-black-403-glass-filter-for-type-p3396452 left over from some film experiments ... I'll have to take it out and play with it, see which lens works best on digital with it fitted Wink
