Has anyone heard of Japonar before? I guess it is just a retailer brand, maybe only in Japan, but I find the 1.2m minimum focus distance and the silver ring on the interior, curious. Take a look.
There are some M42 preset lenses, maybe with T-mount or universal thread underneath adapters which look quite similar but I think the front element is different, and again the shape of the engravings.
It looks closest to the Hanimar to me: http://m42lens.com/m42-lens-database/892-hanimar-35mm-f-3-5-22-preset
There is also an Ina (Vinson) which I'd say is the same: http://m42lens.com/m42-lens-database/1491-ina-wide-angle-35mm-f-3-5-22
The Ina has a 1m minimum focus distance, the Haminar 0.8m, but the Japonar only goes to 1.2m.
This Focal goes to 0.9m but seems to be a like-for-like copy of the Hanimar down to the engravings: http://www.thecuckoofarm.com/cuckoo/photo/lens/tm/focal35/focal35.php
There is a Sears too which is pretty close with slightly different engravings and with the focus direction going the opposite way: http://www.thecuckoofarm.com/cuckoo/photo/lens/m42/sears35/sears35.php
---
Still, there remains a part of me that is hopeful it could be something else and not just another M42 lens, which would not be worth the price. |

Thank you both. At least now there is a record of Japonar on the internet for others haha. I couldn't find anything through Japanese Google either. Probably a decent lens if it is really 6/5 elements/groups, but too expensive. That's the problem with 'rare' names, then sellers also assume the item is rare when it is only generic, and then price it accordingly. |

Interesting, although I found this lens in Japan, it's not an impossible theory! |
