A usefully fast 35mm lens in Leica screw mounting. Discontinued a few years ago but about to be recreated by Mr Cosina in a new Leica M version at a much higher price. I sold mine to an MFL member when I got a 40mm f1.4 Nokton . . . maybe I should have held on to it ! Some low light pictures, all taken on Leica M8. (click on pics for better image)

Excellent pictures.

Luckily I don't sell lenses. I still have mine. Wink

Ahh, Thomas, sadly I sometimes have to sell one to fund the purchase of another. I cheer myself up by saying it makes sure I 'cull the herd' regularly !

Need to clean your sensor, it's above the far light standard on the left, and one on the far right along the horizon.
Still nice shots.

Well, thanks for the advice, Lightshow . . . but those marks are long gone and have been regularly replaced by others Smile keeping the Leica sensor dust free can be a bit taxing - the bits just seem to come and go !

Nice lens! I wish I could find an affordable Ultron Lieca mount.

I do have a 50/2.0 Ultron that came on a Voigtlander Prominent. I don't have an adapter, so I've only used it freelensed. I had my NEX-5N with an M42 adapter and #1 extension tube. All were shot wide open, and I'm holding the lens tightly against the extension tube.

Wow, I really like this one! Did you have that on a tripod or is it handheld?

Thank you.

Of course a tripod was used. Otherwise it's impossible to make pictures like this (at least for me). Wink

BTW, I am using this one as my walk around tripod:

Very recommendable.

Stephen, you show Leica M8 is superb camera, today. Very thin stack over the sensor, less than M9 or 240, and the light crop is much more mild than APS-C. Not without quirks, or course but it is very kind to all the nice LTM and M glass.

is this lens very different from the nokton version ( 35mm 1.4 ) ?

I used few days the nokton and didn't like how it render wide open ( prefere my leica r 35mm or contax 35mm )

Thanks for the kind words, Uhoh7 - I still enjoy using the m8.

And to thebbm - the 35/1.4 is very different indeed, much more like an early 35/1.4 Summilux in character, although its optical layout is similar to the early 35/2 Summicron. After I let my Ultron go, I bought the 40/1.4 Nokton which -confusingly - has the same layout as the earlier 35/1.4 Summilux. I'm not convinced that the 40/1.4 is actually as sharp as the Ultron when it's stopped down, although there's not a lot in it. But for the pictures I take, I think it does better wide open. If you go and browse the "big" Leica forum you'll see both the Voigtlander f1.4s often get a bashing for not being $4000 aspherical floating element miracles but for me that's irrelevant - I can afford the Voigtlanders whilest I can't afford the Leica ones. And the results are good.

I never compared those lenses as I don't plan to replace my Ultron. However, what I've read in other Forums is that the Nokton 1.4 seems to have different rendering wide open. Some state that the Nokton is more "harsh", whatever that means.

Anyway, I think that is mainly a matter of taste. In terms of size, quality and price the Ultron is for me a very good choice and I never regretted to buy it. Most probably it depends also on the camera you're using. I definitely prefer to use RF lenses on my GXR-M, most of them are Voigtländer LTM ones as you can see here:

Thomas - for picture #1 did you have the lens on an extension tube? It looks as though you're closer than the 1 meter minimum focus (mmm, maybe my memory fails me and it's less than 1 metrer...)

Nice pics !

Thank you! Indeed, for #1 and #3 a small extension was used.

After have seeing a lot of pics from 35 mm lenses, there are a few one better than those taken with the Minolta MD 35/2,8 5 elements

IMHO the Minolta MD 35mm/F2.8 is most probably the best in the F2.8 class. However, if you are looking for a faster lens, then this Voigtländer is most probably best.
Best option is to have both. Wink

This review may be quite interesting: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/voigtlander-ultron-11-7-35-mm-review/
BTW, on my A7R II there are no issues like color shift or smearing edges at all; i.e. it performs much better than on A7, A7 II or A7R due to the better BSI-CMOS sensor.
