I have it and it cost me about the same. IMO it is definitely worth it. In extreme situation it may show som CA, but not much. In facts a lott less than Canon nFD and Rokkor MD, both 200/4.
Have been using it for plane spotting lately. Will show some photos later. |

Another happy 180 ED owner here. Great sharpness and virtually free from CA. Some examples from my A7R (full-res on flickr):

Those look great also. The images I posted above(I figured out how to get them to show up in the thread: ) are the first ones I took, the dusk one being the first. I am very happy with the lens so far. It came with the caps, a filter and the original leather lens holder. The lens looks like it was really taken care off, no scratches or anything. |

After seeing the photos in one of the threads on this lens and threads with comparisons with its competitors I decided I really should do something about the dearth of Nikon lenses in my collection and this seemed an excellent place to start. So watching the auctions really close I finally won a cosmetically beat up copy of this with near perfect optics and function for 150. I see why people are so enamored. Just a joy to use.
This red bellied sapsucker has been attacking the holly tree in my yard for a couple of years and is pretty low key with comings and goings of people so I set up nearby and tried to get some photos.

Congrats on joining the 180 ED Nikkor club! It's really a great lens.
It produces wonderful tonality for black and white, too. |

To find a better 180/2.8 from the manual era you have to look at the much more expensive apochromatic ones.
The Nikon handles lateral CA much better than most counterparts and sports a noticeable sharpness on most of the frame. It's also quite light and compact, all things considered, and has a very light focus ring that you can turn with a single finger. The only real downside of that lens is the super tender front element... you may scratch it just by staring at it!
180 $ sounds like a good price to me. |
