How close does the lens focus to? Or rather what magnification?

It can do 1:1 macro, MFD is 0.3m.

Like 1 Like 1 reminds me of the Tamron 90/2.5 macro, without the blue spot. Smile

Really nice macro shots! Did you use tripod or focusing rail?

Wow Like 1 .

Very nice! My only other 1:1 macro in this focal range is the "legendary" Kiron 105mm f/2.8 (mine is branded as a Vivitar Series 1 105mm f/2.5). In testing, I determined that it is an excellent optic, but not quite as sharp as the Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 or f/2.8, or the Tamron SP 90mm f/2.5. But neither of these focus down to 1:1.

I'd be very curious how this Samyang measures up to some of the other top-notch macros out there. It's a handsome looking lens, has sort of a Leitz-like appearance. Wouldn't mind adding one to my macro collection.

Excellent photos! It is difficult to focus manually with high magnification.

Handheld)
I can't use tripod, it takes so long to set up whole think, so the insects are just flying away )

Got second flash and magic arm. Will try dual flash light setup at spring-summer.

Wow, you must have iron hands. Smile Handheld at equivalent 150mm for macro is really challenging. Did you put the focus at the maximum macro ratio and move the camera instead? I wonder if there are any other trick to make macro photos so crisp. Thanks.

I'm using short shutter speed usually, like 1/500 and shorter. And shooting with flashlight you can "freeze" motion, so even 1/160-1/250 is enought. Sometimes i focus with my hands, sometimes - with focus ring, depending of position. It's harder to use fosus ring in flash setups, because i have to support lens with one hand and it's uncomfortable to use focus ring.

Thanks. Looks like I should add flash to my camera to play with macro.

You sir are amazing, those macro shots are really hard to take handheld, even a slight breath throws them out

Simply excellent.

How do you manage to prevent these insects from escaping the monstrous camera and flashes getting close?

Not bad actually! Admittedly I'm not a Samyang fanboy Wink
