Long time lurker & first time poster so this should be fun. I just ordered a Jupiter 9 Contax/Kiev RF mount on ebay a few hours ago. Unfortunately i did some reading AFTER ORDERING (like the simpleton I am) and found out that mounting the RF Jupiter 9 lens can be a pain due to different mounts. I Have a fuji Xt1 that I plan to use this on so my question is what do I need to do/buy in order for me to make this work?. Any info is greatly appreciated! _________________ This just aren't made the same anymore. |

If it's the Contax RF mount, you generally need to look around on ebay and someone in the former USSR will hopefully be selling a custom made adapter for your mount, made out of an old camera. If you have to buy something and ship it that far you may as well get them to add a Jupiter 8 and Helios 103 for a few dollars more... |

Actually, the links provided above will only work for Kiev/Contax lenses of 50mm or less.
You will need an adapter similar to the Nikon S Rangefinder lens to Fuji FX
I have a Jupiter 11 and Jupiter 9 in this mount, and they work well with this adapter.
See here:

The adapters Lightshow links will work very good as well. They are made of the whole Contax mounts taken from old Soviet Kiev cameras. You just screw off the inner ring used to mount the 50mm lenses and you get a mount for 35mm, 85mm and 135mm ones. But if you only have a Jupiter-9 lens and do not plan having more Contax mounted lenses, the hint by Tom i perfect, as you get the mount cheaper, and it will seve you as a dedicated one you won't need to remove off the lens. |

Wow thats a very comprehensive and helpful list!. What are your thoughts on this one? It says "CONTAX RF NIKON S to FUJI X" - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Contax-RF-Nikon-S-Ranger-Finder-Lens-to-Fujifilm-X-E1-X-E2-X-M1-X-T1-XT2-Adapter/320898819699?epid=1761186250&hash=item4ab70f6673:g:ERwAAOSw5cNYU780
Im most defintely going to go with the home made bootleg DIY option as i want to encourage people like that to keep being creative!. But my only concern is how long it will take to get this shipped from Ukraine/Russia to Australia the fastest. _________________ This just aren't made the same anymore. |

OK, the adapter from the US will work with any lens that has its own helicoid.
The Ukrainian adapter is for the shorter lenses.
The shipping takes about three weeks to Oz give or take

Thank you for the clarification & I think ill go with Tom's option of getting a single use Contax/nikon S adapter instead of going the homemade diy adapter route. I will most likely buy more vintage contax lenses down the line but for the time being i should be content with just the jupiter. _________________ This just aren't made the same anymore. |

Guys on another note how does your contax kiev Jupiter 9 perform? ive been doing some reading and apparently there are significant variations in QC between different decades of manufacture. (Mine being 1966 Im hoping mine will be atleast half decent being mint condition and all haha). _________________ This just aren't made the same anymore. |

Down the track you might like to try the Helios 103 or the Jupiter 8M or both
The lenses are very cheap and are excellent.
The Ukranian adapters often come with your choice of these lenses as a bonus.
FWIW I rate the Jupiter 8M ahead of the standard Jupiter 8 - it should be the same, but in my experience it isn't and I have a couple of them.
The Helios 103 is simply outstanding - a different design from the Sonnar based Jupiter 8.
Good luck with your Russian adventures

Hey mate been a while but i finally got my hands on the jupiter 9 lens and a nikon S mount adapter. The lens is in pristine condition but im having issues with the adapter. Do you know if there are any differences between Nikon S mount and the Contax/Kiev rf mount? For some reason my lens Pops into the adapter mount but its unable to "twist" into lock. Feels like there is something either in the lens or the adapter stopping full lock from being acheived. Any info is appreciated

I bought one of this in the past. My Contax 85 loosely fits and the lens rotate a bit when turning the focus ring. _________________ https://lensfever.com/

Double check that the mount doesn't have any bent parts, it wouldn't take much to make mounting it difficult.
If nothing looks bent, the adapter might be out of spec, the tabs might be too thick. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

Apart from this small screw like thing nothing else seems to be obviouslyy out of line to the naked eye on the mount itself. Ignore the red nail polish lol i tried to use the old nailpolish lock trick but even that doesnt seem to work. Seems to me like the adapter itself is off. _________________ This just aren't made the same anymore. |

With the Jupiter lenses- the problem is usually with the lens, the flanges have a lot of slop in them. I've files several J-12's and J-9's to get them to fit Kiev, Contax, and Nikon cameras. Be prepared to take off the collar and do some filing, or the bend the bayonet flange into place. |
