I went to Romania because of a book I read, not really knowing what to expect.
After 12 days and 2700 km I know one thing - I'm sold Wink

Due to the nature of the trip there was no way I could bring some manual gear with me, so here are a few of my AF shots with the good old Nikon D300s, one Sigma and two Tokinas.

Why have I fallen in love with Romania?

1. There are countless beautiful monasteries everywhere you go.

2. Bukovina - time seems to have stopped there but can't really be blamed for that.

3. Fortified churches in Transylvania

5. Villages that look to beautiful to be real

6. Old means of transportation that somehow fit in with the landscape

7. real summer weather, not that obvious to people from my country

8. Cities so lovely they could have been out of a fairy tale

9. Abandoned buildings that are still breathtaking

10. Last, but not least, open and friendly people. I don't really have pictures to prove, so please take my word for it Smile

Hello. You probably meant ways of transport, not means.

Anyway - nice photos.

I have quite a blind spot for Romania too, especially traditionally farmed Cluj region. It is a good country to see an old fashioned way of living, so also good for "my" butterflies.

I even think I've been to Tulcea too this year, but definitely not all places in Romania does look so romantic as from your photos: there is a lot of mess and various ruins "from the times of Caucescu" on the contrary Twisted Evil

Nature has a way of beautifying any ravaging of the landscape given time...the buildings have become a part of nature here -- it was not always that way, not as extreme as in Mexico, Central & South America. Before the architecture were truly old ways there...

The way through the landscape, utilizing means of transportation... Wink

I've never considered romania as a holiday destination before but these photos really make me want to go there some time. Excellent shots!

The book is "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. No vampires found though Wink

Of course not all the places are lovely, there is a lot of poverty, deserted property and unfinished things. They didn't ruin my experience though. Romania can be a very interesting holiday destination - in the summer there is good weather, there are decent hotels in all major cities, the roads are not that disastrous and the Black Sea is a joy for someone who only has access to the Baltic. Regions are different from one another not only because the guide tells you so. You can actually see it in the architecture, landscape and life quality, almost like going to a different country.

I'll be back with a few more shots in September, if you don't mind Wink

The peaceful and beautiful time goes back to the 1960s and 1980s.

Thank you!

Me thinks he probably realized the ludicrous mistake given that happened 6 years ago.
