hey everyone,
New to MF lens and just got a Rollei Planar. It works well but unfortunately cannot focus to infinity on my Canon 450D with the adapter.
But at the suitable focal range i think the lens is very sharp.
Anyone have experience with this particular lens before?

Welcome to aboard!
I don't have experience with Canon and Rollei.
Beautiful capture! Look at those eyes! Amazing! _________________ -------------------------------

Thanks guys!
I have procured a Contax Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7 that unfortunately does not focus to infinity as well. In the mean time, i have sent it in to a local shop to have it serviced and calibrated to be able to focus to infinity as well.
But i might try to calibrate the Rollei myself! ( which i believe is a Zeiss but without the *T coating! ) |

@LucisPictor,
a bit OT, but isn't the Planar design the same as the "double Gauss?"
so basically all current 50mm lenses would be Planar designs? and it seems there is no 50mm Sonnar for SLR (only for rangefinder) -- something about not enough back-focus, so the shortest Sonnar for SLR is 85mm |

@LucisPictor,
went thru your 50mm lens comparison. a very comprehensive work! you should make a blog page for that and stud it with google ads. might buy you some lenses
that said, the volna-9 is amazing! that bokeh is to die for. all the others are more alike than different. question, is it due to the fact it's a macro lens? or the weird shaped iris?
it would be interesting to see a comparison to other macro lenses like the canon 50/2.8 or 60/2.8 EF-S or similar... also the industar 61 L/Z which also has the weird iris. |

Rollei's flange distance is 44.6mm, whereas OM's is 46mm so it is not possible to achieve infinity focus even you can find OM->EOS adapter.
Though there are Rollei SL35->EOS adapters available, but expensive. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

I've tried the method poilu proposed to adjust the lens to infinity, but unfortunately, the nose cone is far too recessed to get any sort of grip on it to remove it.
I'm in the process of sanding down the adapter alittle to see if that helps to achieve focus at infinity. (It seems like there's just alittle more to go before it locks into focus! ) |

A blog page? Hmm... why not...
Sanding down the adapter is of course a way to achive infinity focus. But make sure that the adapter is still solid enough to support the lens afterwards. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Hi. got a Rollei 50mm F1,8 lens, the old one. Its not as good made as an old Takumar 50 mm lens. But maybe it´s the lens i have been looking for, if nothing better comes up. If anyone have any tips on a better lens (not to expensive!) let me know. Here are some examples from my recent testing. Taken with a sony A7RII. Im happy with the results and now i am going out for more testing. It´s a wonderful lens wide open, better than others. Maybe i´ll sell some of other lenses if this one does it. Maybe i have got the MLS (multiple lens syndrome) then i keep all my lenses.

Hi. got a Rollei 50mm F1,8 lens, the old one. Maybe i have got the MLS (multiple lens syndrome) then i keep all my lenses |
It's one of the better "old" 50's out there in my opinion. The crisp sharpness and almost gaussian background blur is awesome. |
