Does anybody know if the Auto Rikenon 55mm f/1.4 lens that exists in Nikon F mount can be safely mounted on full-frame Nikon DSLRs (D600, D700, D800, etc.)?
Also, it seems that there were multiple versions of this lens in Nikon F mount. Are they all the same in terms of performance? |

I have never heard of an Auto Rikenon that exists in F mount.
Pentax K mount yes.
These have similar registration distances of course.
Do you have any images or references for such in F mount?

Yes, definitely pre-Ai. I have noticed, however, that some pre-Ai third-party lenses will mount on Nikon DSLRs with no problems at all, which is why I'm asking about this one. |

I saw someone selling one of these in Nikon F on ebay a few weeks ago. They don't seem to be very common.
I have something else to add about these lenses: I don't know whether they were made by Tomioka, or Cosina, or someone else, but while they have excellent construction quality, I would think twice about trying to buy an old grubby one to clean and fix.
These babies are quite complicated. Most old lenses are easy to disassemble and more difficult to get back together, but these are difficult to disassemble and extremely difficult to re-build.
It's not that it can't be done, but unless you have a lot of patience and a lot of experience, it's probably not worth the hassle. Hold out for a nice copy. |

The mount on the Rikenon 55mm was apparently slightly different to the normal Nikon one (probably by design), so Nikkor lenses would fit the Ricoh (and Sears) cameras, but not the other way around. It can be modified (if this hasn't already been done), and there's more information here:

Many thanks for this. I can't find anything on these pages saying that the mirror of my DSLR won't hit the back of the lens, so I will not be buying it... until I find a resource that can confirm that my camera is safe. |
