Hi everyone! I posted this on reddit and they sent me over here noting that Arkku especially knows everything about old Fuji.
I recently picked up this Fujinon 55mm f1.8 and after going through several pages of google and Ebay results I'm having a hard time getting a proper ID on this copy.
Its a M42 mount and while it appears to have been made in several styles I can't find anything on this configuration. Every copy I come across has a silver aperture ring and or a different focus ring while this copy more closely resembles the Pentax Takumar.
Any ideas or insight on it?

The 55mm f/1.8 was one of the "kit" lenses of it's day.
It came in several configurations, as you've noticed.
Your example doesn't have the "EBC" designation (Electron Beam Coating), so it's one of the less sophisticated versions.
This is not to say the lens is uncoated.
Unfortunately your pictures don't show whether or not it has the aperture coupling lug on the rear of the aperture ring. I suspect it doesn't.
If not, it'll have probably been supplied originally with an ST701, c1971 and onwards.
I used Fujica SLRs for many years from the late '70's through to the early 2k's … the glass was so impressive, retaining the capability to use it was a criteria when my cameras became unserviceable and I changed systems!
Assuming the lens to be in good order, I'd have no reservations about using it, you'll not be disappointed.
Inevitably, a lens hood (49mm screw) will enable the lens to give of it's best.
My archived page here http://web.archive.org/web/20040111170051/www.toptown.com/nowhere/kypfer/fujica.htm may be of some interest.
Good luck |

Very nice!
I like this all black version better than the silver ring one.
I'm guessing your version is relatively early (late 60s)
I have one with SN 52xxxx that came with my ST-701 which was date 1970/71
Weights 206g, takes 49mm filters and has 6 diaphragm blades
Distance scale is green in ft and white. IR mark to the left of 4
It will be a very capable lens, with great color rendition.
Enjoy it!
PS. It seems to be a Biotar type lens as per this website:
