That softness at full aperture could be useful for some portraits.
What is it like at say f8 ?

The softness also works well for the rose.

I haven't tested it at f8 yet, but from what I understand it supposed to be sharp all the way across the frame at f8.
I will test it weather permitting.

Nice finding and nice pic. Is Miranda actually Soligor?

Managed to locate one of these.
Yes, soft wide open and firms up nicely at f8.
Shot as jpeg and b/w in LR - no other PP

And in a case where sharpest isn't best........
here are the same two images with a simple contrast adjustment.

Thanks, I've wanted a copy of this lens for quite awhile. I was glad to finally get one.
I believe the Auto series were Miranda design's. and very few of that series were also sold as Soligors.

It's amazing what a little contrast boost will do for this lens. I'm glad you got one.

Me too - it's a great lens.
I was shooting portraits a little while back - it would have been perfect for those.

You are showing great photos using this lens, Tom. My copy, the 10.5cm version Auto Miranda, doesn't seem to be really good. It is not at the average level of all my 105mm lenses. Kind of weird. I believe all vintage 105mm lenses (not the triplet) should be pretty good.

Is yours 10.5cm or 105mm?

Yes, it is the 105mm.
A very well made lens I think

vivaldibow, which version of the 10.5cm lens do you have.?
There are more then one. Post a pic of the lens if you can.

During the Miranda 10.5cm lens production, Miranda switched from a 6/4 design to a 5/5 design.

All Auto Miranda 105mm f2.8 lenses used the 5/5 design.

Seems that you are likening the miranda lenses more and more.

And you are right. Lovely lenses-

Hi Oldland and walter,

Here are the photos of mine. I remember a fellow member also mentioned his 105mm is not very good.
http://forum.mflenses.com/miranda-2-8-105mm-on-nex-3-t49986.html

Actually I checked my photos, I found
under cloudy weather or indoor, they seem to be fine; but with light at the background (not really backlit scene), the sharpness dropped. For
example, for the petal of a flower, the edge is not clearly defined, but smeared. By light at the background, I didn't mean very harsh light condition
at all.

From Oldland's photo, I do notice the difference of my copy and your copy.

I have another Soligor Miranda 105mm by Kowa, that lens is quite sharp. I guess the Auto Miranda is not made by Kowa.

I think I have many of the 105mm lenses made in Japan in that period of time, from major manufacturer to third party. This particular Auto Miranda 10.5cm copy is a surprise. Sad

No, I don't believe the Auto Miranda's were made by Kowa.
I am working on who actually made them now. Might be a long process.

These silver eared versions were mainly made by Tokina. There is a Soligor version that looks the same with a Tokina Serial number.

I was thinking the same. However, I have the Tokina made 105mm f/2.8 (either Vivitar or Soligor versions), all of them perform very well. While the one I had in my previous post just doesn't behave the same. I am getting a 105mm f/2.8 (not the 10.5cm version) to see how it does.

I think the most likely maker is Tokina, but I think the lens was designed by or for Miranda. So the other Tokina made lenses aren't the same.
