Lens hoods from Alex

I asked Alex for 2 special lens hoods for normal or short-tele lenses. The first one with 39mm thread and the second one with 40.5mm thread. These diameters are often used on old alu lenses (e.g. manual Biotar 58/2, manual Primoplan 58/1.9, Jupiter-3 50/1.5, Jupiter-8 50/2 and others). The hoods are really useful on these old poorly coated lenses as the easiest way to enhance contrast.

The hoods are metallic (solid feel), surface is black and opaque (inside and outside). Thread is accurate, fits all my lenses.

I like them, they are really cute Very Happy

Here are some pictures:

on Jupiter-3 50/1.5

on Primoplan 58/1.9

These look great.
Alex, do you have a list of filter thread sizes available for these metal filters?

Do you mean available sizes for these hoods?
The list is very very long, it is easier to let me know which sizes you are after Embarassed

Yes sorry I did mean hood not filter Embarassed
Sure I will let you know what I need.
I also wonder. Do you have different version for wide angle/normal/tele etc.....

Metal hoods are a must have as far as I am concerned.

If I can make a suggestion. If you package these with a slip-on front cap.
That would be very convenient and I think improve sales for you.
I like to leave the hood on the lens and just cap the hood. One hood for every one of my lenses.
Likely others would want to do the same.

Cheers
Andy

Andy, I do the same thing. I got a bunch of 49, 52, 55mm hoods and all
of them take a snap-on 67mm lens cap for the hood. These Alex hoods
look great. I'm interested in getting some of these myself, need one for
lens on the Kiev 4, wonder what diameter that is. Will check when I get
home.

What is the price (and shipping) for each hood?

I would need the following (all for full frame use, as well as APS-C) :

49mm for 28mm lens
49mm for 50mm lens
49mm for 90mm Macro
55mm? for Sears 55mm f/1.4 (can someone confirm the size of this lens, please? I have nothing in this size)
58mm for 80-320 zoom

I'm having a h*ll of a time trying to find OEM Pentax hoods so these will do just the same job Laughing

These look much nicer than what you can find on eBay... I'm interested as well.

I'm interested too, my Mir-24N needs a hood and is not 52mm thread. (I think its 58, but will check).

Given the different angle of view, hoods for use on DX should be narrower/longer (roughly what one would want for 1.5x the focal length, or even a bit more) compared to FX.

Count me interested as well, I need hoods for two old aluminium manual CZJ lenses (Tessar 50/2 and Biotar 58/2). Will check the thread size

...is this “Alex” still provide lens hood to purchase? I’ve just bought a Jupiter 11 LTM with a 40.5mm filter from an antique shop in prestige condition but flair a lots!

PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:54 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I solved this with a 40.5 to 49mm step up ring from ebay on my Jupiter-11

See https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-5mm-Metal-Lens-Hood/263678279483?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

This item works perfectly on my Jupiter 11 and it retains the slim diameter of the lens, ideal for poking through fence mesh Wink

Thanks, is ~20mm enough to remove most of the flares?

No guarantees, sorry.

How long the lens hood can be before it causes vignetting will depend on the size of your sensor. A hood for M4/3 can be longer than one for APS-C which can be longer than that for full-frame.

Best do a few tests with a length of rolled-up black card slipped onto the end of your lens to see what works for you Wink
