The more I use this lens the more I like it. Remarkably sharp for such a simple optic. As I understand it, it is a simple dialyte (4 element) with early coatings. Used with a helicoid adapter it becomes a pretty good macro.

crop

Missed focus on the eye by about a mm! Still it works pretty well.

The Tessar 40/4.5 lens works pretty well for macro too.

I have several tessars but not the 40mm. Might have to seek one out.

Yep. I like it since many years and have quite a few of them. Amazing little lens gem!

There are also Helioplan enlarger lenses, which are also quite impressive.

I have the 105 too but I have not used it for sometime. I do have the 135 too but I have not find an adapter for it.

135mm in that conical enlarger mount? Haven't seen that one yet...
There are however such large format lenses in alu/black barrel.

I have one, but I have not used it. I would be curious to see how you adapt it to your camera.
If possible. Very Happy

I keep going back to this lens. I was trying to capture the gorgeous lavender color of the artichoke blooms when a bee flew into the frame.

the crop: the wind was pretty good so there is a bit of motion blur.

I still haven't got around to trying the 105 4.5.
