I resisted it for as long as I could, and then finally succumbed and bought one from www.35mmc.com

Early days yet, but it looks very promising. This shot was at f/1.1 on a Sony A7 II.

Nice, certainly renders like a Sonnar, very smooth.

Lovely dog, looks like a character. Smile

On a Sunday morning, I like to take a photo of my Dad, this morning I decided to put the 7Artisans 50/1.1 on my X-Pro1, @f1.1.

It looks stunning. It really has that Sonnar feeling, hasn't it?

I posted the shot of my dad in a Fuji group on Facebook, and the first comment was that the lens has good centre sharpness, but a displeasing bokeh (words to that effect). He went on to say that seeing the lens is so cheap, it should be of no surprise.

I'm guessing he is not a fan of the look of old lenses!

Thanks for posting your nice examples.

I think I should give it a try. Just ordered one brand new for EUR 350.- incl. shipping.

Together with my Techart LM-EA7 adapter it will be my fastest AF lens for my A7R II... Wink

I've posted this already in another thread but it fits better here:

Examples from my lens under low light conditions.

The first 2 pictures are shot with A7R II in normal artificial light; i.e. normal room lighting (it's already night outside), i.e. without flash, ISO 3200, free hand and WB in "light bulb"-mode.

No manipulation applied whatsoever, not even lens profile. Pictures are clickable for better quality viewing.

Fully open at F1.1

The next two without room light but with candle light:

Fully open at F1.1

Stopped down to something like F1.2 (middle betw. F1.1 and F1.4 on the lens)

Obviously extreme conditions like a candle light in the dark are too much for the lens at F1.1. However, stopping down to something like F1.2 solves the problem (the aperture ring is declicked). The exposure time was 1/100 for the first and 1/80 sec. for the second candle light picture, that's less than a half stop. The flare was clearly visible in the viewer and I simply turned the aperture ring until it disappeared.
IBIS was enabled.

For me that's totally acceptable (bearing in mind the price of the lens).

I've done some testing with my Ricoh GXR-M (APS-C, built to Leica standards, lens direct usable without any adapter) as well and on this camera the lens was able to cope with the candle light situation, even at F1.1, i.e. fully open. No Sony alike flare!
To have a nice 75mm/F1.1 lens for my Ricoh is a nice extra bonus. Wink

Slightly different scenery as the focus and exposure was set to the candle light instead to the figure as before. Tried this on the Sony as well but same situation as before; i.e. stopping down a little bit is required.

F1.1 on Ricoh GXR-M

Another good example to show that the final output comes never from the lens alone but always from the combination with the used camera.

BTW, also my old Leitz Summicron LTM/M39 50mm/F2.0 performs better on the Ricoh than on the Sony.

The minimal focussing distance for the lens is 70 cm, so i change the K&F Concept
adaptor Leica M/e-mount to a chinese made helicoid. Now the distance is approx. 30 cm.

My boring standard test flower on the Sony A7R II fully open:

IMHO quite nice bokeh, at least for my taste.

However, I wouldn't recommend this lens for landscapes. There are definitely far better ones.

Looks like a capable lens, better contrast and flare resistance than the Neewer series.

I still like the bokeh of this lens. Picture made fully open without flash on Sony A7R2:
