So today I received the fourth copy of this lens, after 3 copies with optical issues. This one performs great, I'm amazed by its sharpness on the whole frame (in the picture, a 100% crop of the center of the frame, shot at 1.4, straight out of the camera with no sharpening and an S-Curve applied to get rid of the flat look of the log PS I used). I ran a fast non scientific test against the Sigma 50/1.4 Art and this lens has nothing to be ashamed of. It's a just a bit less sharp at the extreme corners (on an APS-C sensor) it has a bit more CA WO and it obviously suffers more from flare, but colors are beautiful, highlights are perfectly handled and the out of focus rendition, both in the foreground and in the background as well as in the transitions is as creamy as it gets. There's just one problem with this lens (and here I ask for your advice): it doesn't focus to infinity. It doesn't get past 25-30 meters. Since I have to decide whether to buy the lens or not within tomorrow morning and I won't have the chance to send it back, I'm wondering if I should do it and take my chances hoping it can be serviced at a resonable price or if I should keep searching for a good copy. Suggestions?

Adjusting infinity takes about 5 minutes.

See

http://retinarescue.com/pentax50mmf1.4.html

"Focus is set by adjusting the position of the focus ring relative to the brass ring it is held to by the three screws. Put the lens on your camera and use a distant target, a radio mast, tv antenna or similar as a suitable infinity target."

The focus ring has probably slipped, or your adapter is too thick(which is easily disproven with other lenses).

Thank you guys, this forum is awesome... Smile
I kept the lens and bookmarked both links; they're definitely useful, marcusBMG!
