Thank you.
Yes it is Kiev mount I think.
This one anyway.

It meens that you have an adaptater which allows the focusing, doesn't it ?
I am still waiting for such an adapter for NEX with a reasonnable price in order to use my Kiev J8 on an A7.
The construction of the Kiev ( ex Contax) version is more solid than the L39 one. I ask myself if the optical quality is not also better.
Your lens seems to be very good |

Well, yes it does need an adapter and I thought that I would make one.
Three parts - modified Fujifilm camera adapter + helicoid + M39-M42 ring glued to the lens.
Here are the pictures.

The optical quality must be the same as the optical construction is identical, just the mount is different.
However, the Jupiter-8 in LTM is also rather cheap.
At least far cheaper than the Kiev version PLUS adapter.

Yes, quite likely.
In my case, I already had the helicoid in M42 which I use for several lenses.
I also had a couple of adapters that were essentially free.
The Fujifilm adapter was one that started as a Konica AR adapter but was wrongly machined at the factory and was replaced. It formed the base for this little project.
Its mount plate was removed, and after reducing its register distance, an M42 for Nikon adapter was added in its place. I used this because I had one lying around and it was not useful otherwise.
So my adapter cost me nothing really but time and effort.
Hence the fun.

There are quite a lot variations in the quality of the L39 version ( I have many of them).
The Kiev one , keeping the mecanical sructure of the Zeiss original , might perhaps be more constant.
It is just a question. |

that's a new idea!
now you don't need a $100 inner flange adapter for just one lens

Hahaha, I often think that I have had an original idea, only to find that it has been often used before.
I am so glad that this one of mine might just be original.

Nice work on the adaptation.
I have several J8s for Kiev, one of my favourite lenses. I also have a couple of original Zeiss Sonnars they are copied from.
I have had two J8Ms for Kiev, and they are slightly different. They made a small change in the optical formula to ease production.
Neither of the J8Ms I had was as sharp as the earlier J8s, but the difference wasn't much and could have been due to sample variation. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Here are some examples I just shot with my M39/LTM version of this lens and my Ricoh GXR-M. The lens was made by KMZ in 1962.
The flower and the puppet are made with a 7mm extension ring. All at medium aperture. For the puppet a flash was used.
BTW, the lens is heavily prone to flare. I've used the Industar shade fixed with adhesive tape. Otherwise the outdoor shots wouldn't have been possible. The Leica type shade wasn't good enough to block out flare completely.
All in all I must say that this lens isn't bad at all. Especially the infinity landscape at F5.6 is surprisingly very sharp and contrasty.
But once again: A proper lens shade is mandatory. _________________ Thomas Bernardy

This Kiev mount lens is much much cheaper to acquire than the threaded version and also seems to be made of brass - certainly not aluminium barrel.
I am really liking this little gem.
Here are some more images to share.

Wide open at f2 it is soft - must try it at f2 for ladies portrait
at f5.6

Locally, I mostly only seen them on cameras, although I was able to buy a not so good threaded one with no camera. I should put it on my Zorki and try it out! |

Yes, I think that you will enjoy using it.
Interestingly, even though a shade is always useful with a lens, mine does not seem as prone to flare as other users seem to find.
