Hallo, now I want complete my bottlebottom-series.

I got this lens beside a jena lens.
It looks like a part of a bigger lens, but it works.
It´s only a tube without back lens, only one lens in the front.
This lens is a portrai-lens by using the lens-mistakes to get a soft picture, I believe.
It must be a supercheap lens without blind. Only a telescope tupe.
This is the opposition of an ultron.

a test picture - it works, but ......

this should be the end of the my serie "the bottlebottoms" ,
but in the next day comes a bag with differnt lenses, perhaps .....

regards Peter

Bottlebottom ... In French , "Cul de Bouteille" ...Bottle's "ass" ! Embarassed This lens is Wonderful ! I could'nt reach that tremendous sum of defaults with any of my homebrew lenses collection . Even a simple meniscus from a kodak box give decent results !
here : kodak meniscus (approx 95mm focal length , f/9) on dslr.

I want a copy of this lens.... Mr. Green

Here is an example of production of the beer bottle bottom lens, sorry it is in finnish but seeing the pictures you got the main idea:
1 theory http://www.teknofokus.fi/Foto/Optplo/ppohjalns1.htm
2 grinding the lens http://www.teknofokus.fi/Foto/Optplo/ppohjalns2.htm
3 assembly http://www.teknofokus.fi/Foto/Optplo/ppohjalns3.htm
4 test pictures http://www.teknofokus.fi/Foto/Optplo/ppohjalns4.htm

The beerglasspictures are super! I am in the winepart of austria, I could take a winebottle, like Helios wrote.

This is my passion, now, to test all lenses, good or bad.
Perhaps, if you love this effect (CAs, blure), this lens is spectakulare.

It´s like laterna magica. I will shoot another pic´s -

see you later

Peter

Now this is amazing!

I found a lot about this lens in the web.
It´s serious, a kind of art, the center is soft and the borders are blurred.
It´s an analog lens for friendly pictures (skin-friendly)

Thanks for posting the pictures, Peter.

I am very fond of soft focus lenses and I am collecting them. Personally, I find these "monocle" lenses like the Portragon to be the least interesting type of soft focus lenses. The soft focus effect is too obvious and lacks delicacy. These lenses also tend to exhibit ubiquitous color fringes, but the results can be pleasant in black and white. As the Portragon as no diaphragm, the lens cannot be stopped down to lessen the effect.

Cheers!

Abbazz

These is one of the worst lens what I ever seen , perhaps a pin hole lens cap produce better quality. Thanks for sharing!

Mmm.. reminds me of my ex-EF135 f2.8 SF lens with soft focus switch on to level 2. I get dizzy looking at OOF images Crying or Very sad I sold the damn lens.

Hi, I know the thread is rather old.
But I want to say, I like such lenses.
I do not think that it is low quality but it gives a dreamy feeling to the pictures.
I try to get one. Nevertheless I build such monocle lenses myself, and I like the results.
Especially the children photos you posted look phantastically.
Thanks for showing.

I have the Sima lens which is similar, but allows to use stops.

Indeed this is interesting. I suggest playing with old zooms by removing or reversing one or more elements. It is the cheapest way with most possibilities. Like Photo Lego-land.

Any lens will produce crap like that if it's not focussed properly.

I have one of these and it is terrible, but I could see its usefulness for portraits. I've used it a bit, mostly with a custom stop made out of cardboard. It's still terrible stopped down. Fortunately I paid less than $5 for it.

Hi, I know it is an old thread.
But I got my portragon just this week. Compared to the Sima 2,0/100 it is much smaller, but it does not have the same macro capabilities without using extra macro rings.

It gives nice soft pictures.
I added a kitchen sink sieve stop to influence the bokeh. By the way, you can add stops in front of the lense. This is not designed but rather easy.
