Just spent an hour dismantling and successfully cleaning (for the first time) a mint adaptall 01F tele-converter with the usual fogged rear element. This was a real bad one, completely opaque but otherwise as new. Soaked the thread of the retaining ring in alcohol, managed to unscrew it, but did need to use the wrench on it, tapped the body until the elements dropped out. It was the second one that was fogged, the first was spotless. Had a go at it with isporyl alcohol, then mould cleaner, not much better so thought nothing to lose, so have at it with toothpaste.

BINGO! not perfect but nears as. waited for it to completely dry out and a few areas looked to be still slightly fogged. Gave it another good going over between my finger and thumb and tooth paste and got it as near as dammit.
Well pleased, for the record, the Toothpaste was 'Colegate deep clean whitening'.
Now to re-assemble the newly pristine rear group, now gleaming with newness.

Just a gentle tap to help them in and....

Bollox!!!

At least I know what to use now, it really did work quite well

Tappy tap tap.... a friendly reminder, forcing optical elements into position can result in shattered expectations, if it doesn't go into position relatively easy, back up and try again, the slightest misalignment can be disastrous when you start forcing it, not to mention the optics won't be aligned and IQ will suffer.
