This Minolta macro lens can achieve 1:1 macro with its original extension tube attached. The pictures below were all taken handheld and under heavy overcast. I consider its performance as excellent! What is your view?

Very nice! I'm getting similar result from my Rokkor MC 1.4 50mm with an adapter on my Nikon D3200.

The second butterfly shot showing the antanae detail shows how good this lens is. Those little violet flowers are in my garden here in Sydney as well and they are tiny. Again, not easy to shoot and this lens catches the detail nicely!

Bokeh and colour rendition are nice as well.

Is it just a tube or does it have optical elements in it?

Wolverine, can you post a picture of the tube? I just picked one up for $5 along with a Nikkor 50mm F2 (still good but well used and worn out) for $20. I would like to see if its the same as the one I have.

I have different extension tubes. I think the ones I have are a set of Minolta tubes. Not from a specific lens. Thanks for posting pics guys.

I have the same lens. The kit became with the inversing ring too.

Nice lens. Optically and mechanical very good one.

I use it only few times, 'cos the macro pics are not my prefererence. But when i need a macro lens, the Minolta MC is with me.

Nice shots.

To clarify the conversation above, the 1:1 adapter is not the same as a regular extension tube, the length is specific to the lenses focal length so that at MFD the image is 1:1, so a 1:1 adapter for a 50mm Macro will have a different length than the 1:1 adapter for 55, 58, 60, 100mm... this only really matters if you need accurate magnification, if you don't care, any extension tube will provide more magnification.

Beautiful results! Smile

That's right, the lens has two sets of magnification markings on the barrel. I think it's yellow for lens only and blue for when you use the matching 1:1 extension tube. If you use a different tube, it will still work, just the markings will not be accurate and maximum magnification might be more or less than 1:1, depending on the length of your tube(s).
