The sun is shining today, so that gave me a desire to make some shots of the sky. Here are three light'n'cheap 135mm lenses I used: Enna Tele-Ennalyt 3.5/135, Jupiter-11 4/135 and Minolta MC Tele Rokkor-QD 3.5/135. Once again I am impressed how well a 135mm lens separates an object at 10-15m from the one at infinity, at any aperture. With 50mm lense that difference in distance gives an almost insensible difference in focus.
This series is not as much about sharpness but about overall impression of the picture. A Sony NEX-5N is used.

I really like 135's on my Sony A6000, and I've got far too many of them. And way up my list of favourites are my Jupiters - I've got three versions of it and they all impress me every time I use them.
But my Rokkor QD 135 / 3.5 is a source of frustration to me, I have had some great images from it, and a lot that just aren't sharp - at a far higher 'fail rate' than I usually get from most of my lenses. I wouldn't get rid of my Rokkor, I think it's a good lens - and perhaps it's a lens that demands a bit more care in use? _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

My two favorite 135/3.5s are the Canon nFD 135/3.5 and the Nikon AI 135/3.5. Both are quite small. The Canon is almost tiny. And both are tack sharp. I have a late Minolta MD 135/3.5 that was part of an outfit I bought, but I haven't given it a serious workout because it has bubble-looking pitting on an inner element in a rear group. I've had it out, and tried to see if the flaws would clean up, but they're permanent. I'm curious what might have caused them, since the lens should be hermitically sealed in that area. _________________ Michael

My best (I mean sharpest) 135/3.5 is a CZJ 135/3.5. Minolta MD 135/3.5 is ok too, but needs to be stopped to f/5.6 for very sharp results. That said I find 135mm on aps-c crop almost too long most of the time. I always carry one with me when I'm out on a long walk or hike (usually the Minolta because it's very small and light), but I end up taking very few photos with it if any at all. _________________ my flickr stream |
