Zeiss biotar 75 mm 1.5 brass edition

Can buy this lens, but I can't find info about this brass version.
Does anybody know this lens?

Brass probably means pre-WW2 and uncoated. During WW2, Brass became a strategic commodity and lens barrels switched to aluminium.

If that's it, and under $1000 pounce on it... even under $2000 is probably a good deal still, I'll let those more familiar give you a better idea on value.

Thanks for your reaction.

His price is high, $ 2220

First I want to hold it in my hands and look through the glass.

Honestly I really don't know what a lens like this one is worth in money.

According to the seller it is a rare lens to get. It is for sale now for about 8 months and no one bought it.

So first see than talk and see what happens.

According to it's serial number it is from 1939

Surprisingly, I can't find anything on a brass version?

All the pre-war Zeiss lenses I've seen were brass, including the half a dozen I own in Contax fit.

May I assume it is labeled as 7.5cm and not 75mm? It seems to be very nice version of this lens,
and indeed, it is rare. Made in a batch of 100 in Exakta mount 23.02.1939, based on a calculation
done 20.04.1938

Personally, I would also meet the owner and inspect ther lens, take a LED torch with you and shine
through the back at a slight angle, while holding it against a dark spot and look through it from the
front, so you see all the possible bad stuff (mold, haze, ...) easily .... and negotiate of course Wink

Check if the lens is coated or not, Oleksander Smakula invented coating in 1935 at Zeiss, but it was
considered a secret of war and was not applied to civilian lenses before later.

The asked for price is not too unrealistic for such a lens btw.

That price is reasonable if it's in good shape, keep in mind it's a rare and desirable lens, it's probably not coated, regardless extra care should be taken when cleaning the glass, as I don't know how soft the glass is, I would consider a clear protection filter so you don't have to reclean the glass.

it's repolished lens means I don't think so benefits as a collector piece, looks nice but not in a genuine stage.
If you are user go for post-war copies they produce certainly better images, this lens is extremely good as well vs its age.

with luck, you can get FAT Biotar with Exakta mount around 700-800 USD
