Different from the 85mm f1.5, here's the little brother : the T3C-2.

It seems to be a 100mm f2 (constant, no aperure ring, only focus ring). Only information that I've found was here : http://pentaxslr.eu/Forums/viewtopic/t=76/

Here's mine, in mint condition :

Some samples :

I think I know why the focus field is curve when ring is set to the closest focus distance. In that state, the front barrel is a little loose and thus, front lense is not perfectly alligned with rear one.

Wow, it looks very good.
The barrel though is a bit dull Very Happy

Also, the samples from the thread you've linked show an amazing dof curvature, wow.

How would you compare it to your Kalienar/Kalejnar 100 wide open?

PostPosted: Sun May 27, 2012 5:20 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Hmm, it renders like a Sonnar type. Nice performance, shame it has no aperture.

PostPosted: Sun May 27, 2012 5:22 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Apertures are different. Kaleinar is f2.8 and the "apparently" Helios 100mm is a constant f2.
Wide open, the Kaleinar is sharper but lacks of contrast. I would say that they are good but different.
DOF curvature seems to be fun with the Helios but I can't test that for now (won't focus to infinity with my Nikon).

I will try to shoot same subject with both and convert RAW to JPEG without post-processing.

These can be found on american eBay for not so cheap prices. They are called "russian night vision" and they seem to come attached to an handgrip of some sort.

Crop is not my taste (cat legs are cut)

A pity, but still a nice effect, great bokeh too.

Lovely picture, very nice rendering from this lens.

Meanwhile, i was surfing on an italian site for used stuff and i spotted a night vision device with what seemed quite an exotic lens on it.
Luckily, the seller has photographed the paper that reports the technical data of the lens.
http://www.subito.it/sport/visore-notturno-asti-37511594.htm
I don't know if the lens is fixed or it can be screwed off, i asked the seller.
100mm f/1.5 looks interesting though.

It is a bit risky, and for that kind of money you can get 90% of some of the most sought after manual focus lenses out there and you know they will work properly on your camera (mount wise) and have that handy thing called "aperture blades" Laughing

And what about the lens of the thread?
How much would you pay for one?

PostPosted: Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:31 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

20-30eu as it's interesting but with no aperture it's not that useful, so for me, worth less than a decent 100mm lens.

I have found this info:
http://www.npzoptics.com/catalog/night_optics/
where you can see the newer version of it, called "TZS-4".
The producer is Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant and the lens is indeed a 100mm f2.

Lens design would be interesting (elements/groups).

I'd buy one as well for 10 euros, even for 20 probably.
Its bokeh is so unnatural that looks like it has been processed in post production.
Nice rendering though.

Very impressive, I'd certainly use one. Cool

I like this lens from what I've seen here. It seems to have a greater depth of field than the Cyclop resulting from the smaller aperture and despite the longer focal length. Some of the photos have a good 3D appearance. How and where can I find one?

If you search on ebay, probably you have to search for "night vision T3C-2" , here is one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Nachtsichtgerat-T3C-2-3fach-Vergroserung-1-Generation-/190748795004?pt=Jagen&hash=item2c6983a07c but not the cheapest price.....
