Interested, but EUR869 for the 8.5mm (offered in Germany) is a bit steep for me

Indeed. Perhaps starting prices to position the lens in quality category. It looks sophisticated lens design though.

KOWA also makes very high prices professional lenses for film productions

Kowa also make the Computar range of CCTV/Industrial C mount lenses, some of which are useful.
