Arriving almost at the same time at my temporary destination: me and the Tamron 01A 35-70 mm f/2.8-3.8 macro (thank you, Chris!). Yesterday and today we went out for a walk, and I found out what this little jack-of-all-trades can do.
1. Wide open @35mm: sharpness up close and some friendly specular highlights in the distance
2. Next project: find a hood, it is quite prone to (typical blue) flaring
3. Nice rendering of delicate spring colours and structures of the weeping willow @35mm, f/5.6
4. The aperture has 1/2 stops: @50 mm f/9 it can do art photography
5. and @80mm you can use it for wild life (as long as the game is tame)
6. 35mm allows excursions into architecture (eventually after straightening things out in post)
7. Pleasant bokeh @80mm f/3.8
8. Close focus: thin depth of field, but sharpness where you want (or get) it
9. With 1:2.5 reproduction ratio, it can almost double as a macro lens
