I've read fantastic things about the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 AIS. Does anybody know if the K version (pre-AI) is as good as the AIS?

It should be very similar. The photosynthesis site states the K version has no thorium so it shouldn't yellow with age. Only differences as I can see it are 7 blades and an extra stop at f22.

Thank you, I had found about the 7 blades vs 9 on photosyntesis, and about the extra stop here: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/preAI70/35mm.htm.

I'd like to know mostly about optical differences, if any.

From what I remember, it was the thorium pre ai version that had the optical difference, 9 elements in 8 groups. The non thorium K and newer have the revised 9 elements in 7 groups. The latter optical formula is below.

Thank you, Kei!

I'm still wondering about the differences between these lenses. If anybody knows, any help would be appreciated.
