Here are some shots taken with the two different versions of the CZJ Biotar 75mm f1.5 lenses. Slim one serial # 3776XXX, and the later fat version serial # is 6243XXX:

Two lenses:

Shot w/the newer version: 6243XXX:
@ f1.5

Shot w/the older version: 3776XXX:
@ f1.5

Shot w/the newer version: 6243XXX:
@ f2

Shot w/the older version: 3776XXX:
@ f2

Shot w/the newer version: 6243XXX:
@ f4

Shot w/the older version: 3776XXX:
@ f4

It's hard to see the difference from my eyes Smile.

To my monitor and eyes, the oldest is sonething warm and a bit sharp. With more contrast and less flare I guess

The old is more CZJ classic rendering

@kds315*

Laugh 1 Wink

The older one is easier to set aperture.

It seems adecuate to ask

Why the chance of thin to fat versions?

Anybody knows the story?

With carefully look at them, it seems the old lens has more clear, smooth, and transparent bokeh. Isn't it?

A bit hard to tell from the examples at this size, but the older sample seems to be the better copy.

I don't see important differences in the performance but both are in exceptionally minty and therefore value-raising condition; a fine oldest pre-war Exakta brother might be a fine addition for your B-family in the future, expecially coated piece.

Maybe some better targets would help to bring out differences?
Shiny objects, depth staggered, bokeh generating objects, etc. ??

Here a few shots using my 1951 slim Biotar:
