I recently found a Zenit E in an antique shop with a black Helios 44-2 that shared the same appearance as model "2.b" (http://forum.mflenses.com/complete-list-of-helios-lenses-getting-closer-t26100.html) but looked much smaller in size. I don't remember the factory, but "Made in USSR" was engraved around the barrel instead of printed. The camera was in bad shape, but the lens looked in good condition. I asked to buy only the lens but the seller wanted to sell as a set only. Any idea which lens could this be? Is there a chance that it is not M42 but M39?

Zenit E is M42. ( and I've got a spare 44-2 if that one is expensive or no good )

Some very early ones were M39, see here:

I have one, from 1966, I think.
