I am looking at a Helios-44m-7 made by Valdai that has no holes on the name ring. I also noticed that its S/N is in the format 94xxxxx. Most other Helios-44m-7 lenses I have seen have a S/N with 8 digits instead. Is this a different version?

The Helios-44M-7 may have a metal or a plastic name ring. To my best knowledge the metal ring version is infrecuent. Only the metal name ring has holes, the plastic one has not.

Yes. The one with metal ring more rare the one with plastic.
