DIY Joe made a 'fantastic' job , very sad... especially if happen with lot more rare lens. I have a a super rare pre -war Zeiss lens also victim of a barbarian DIY Joe , it's always makes me upset.

But at least he seems trustable:
"that will most likely show up if you shoot with lens wide open".
Most seller would write ~ "but this is not visible in normal photography" or such ..

Looks like epoxy. prob be able to trim it off quite easy.

That looks like Gorilla Glue, which is as sticky as hell but expands as it sets, I think it's a close relative of expanding foam. It's almost impossible to clean the stuff off something once the expanding residue gets on it.

Notwithstanding the glue. The start price is not much less than the price of a perfect one

Gorilla glue is a urethane, it reacts with moisture and does foam. You are correct in saying related to expanding foam (at least some types), polyurethane foam is everywhere.

What do you expect, even if here, where people really should know better, you see techniques like using calipers to turn holding rings?
