Hi,
I am a nikon shooter. Nikon's tilt-shift lenses are very expensive (even the their old version).
Are there valid alternatives one should have a look at?

Cheers

my shift lens (without tilt) is a old Schneider Kreuznach PC Curtagon 4/35 HFT and I'm very happy with it. A joy to use (even handheld) and I like the results I get from. I have the Rollei version but it was also avaible for Nikon.

Cheap and good is a tough call in tilt shit or PC lenses. The Olympus OM 35 Shift is arguably the second best (after Zeiss PC-Distagon) shift lens available at the 35mm Focal length and could be Leitax'd to Nikon fit. The Oly 24 has a stellar reputation but is as expensive as us used PC-E 24.

Incidentally, I don't believe the 24 PC-E to be as bad as the internet would imply, I know this guy http://clickclickjim.com has used one for his professional work. I would suggest that you consider hiring one when you need it.

It is probably a bit specialised to find a third party lens in a Nikon compatible version. Unless doing close up work you will probably need infinity focus.
Samyang do a modern 24mm MF TS lens in F mount (and others). Not their cheapest lens, but probably reasonable value

I have an Arsat 35/2.8 shift lens, Nikon mount. It's an excellent lens although I'm considering selling it as I never use it.

Comparing todays prices for PC Nikkors with good old times when they were sold new the are bargains.
Have a look at todays PC nikkor, the are asked for ~1600 - 1900 €uros - that's money!

PC 3,5/28 should be approx 350.- - 400.- €uros
an exaample from France:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Objectif-a-decentrement-Nikon-PC-Nikkor-3-5-28-mm-Shift-lens-/301745382356?hash=item46416d23d4

PC 4/28 (older Version) 50,- cheaper.

2,8/35mm PC Nikkor is about 300.-€

For their capabilty these prices seem to be ok.

@Tedat: Are You shure that Your PC Curtagon 4/35 is HFT coated?
I'd very apperciate a picture, if so!

Thank you!

didn't you see the first photo? It shows my lens... you can even see the HFT marking on it.

If it doesn't show for whatever reason, here is the link to the picture: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tedat/21066491061/

The most valid alternative is certainly Adobe Photoshop or a similar program where you can manipulate the perspective during post processing. So for digital photography the good old shift lens version is more or less outdated and not really necessary any more.

Although I have a shift lens (SMC Pentax 28mm/F3.5) I don't use it for that reason. It's more easy and flexible to do the correction afterwards.

Photoshop and Co. may be cheaper (if you already got a program like this)... but not easier or faster than a shift lens. And don't forget.. a lot people don't even change contrast or sharpness..

Decent Tilt/Shift lenses all seem to be very expensive to me.
I was keen to try tilt, and ended up getting a micro 4/3 camera & tiltable adapter to my DSLR lenses. It worked out much cheaper than a T/S lens & gave me a wide vaiety of focal lengths to experiment with.
There are now also shift adapters available, but I've not seen any that do both tilt & shift.

It's high time I had another go with tilt. Rolling Eyes

There is a Kipon Tilt-Shift Adapter NIK-NEX (Nikon F - Sony E mount):
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Kipon-Tilt-Shift-Adapter-NIK-NEX-Nikon-F-Sony-E-mount-/161831272622?hash=item25ade540ae

but the asked price for a new one is similar to used PC Nikkor price!

That is certainly true. However, at least it's worth to consider as the OP was asking for different options or alternatives.

When I started with digital photography I was also shooting JPG out of the camera without PP whatsoever. Over the time I realized the fantastic world of Photoshop and changed to RAW shooting.
The possibilities are simply amazing and are even able to avoid the purchase of special lenses.

However, it's primarily a matter of taste, skills and expected result. That's clear anyway.

I know the Canon FD 35/2.8 Tilt/Shift has been modified to fit EF, but I'm not too sure if it can fit Nikon's with out extra effort, Jim Buchanan may be able to explain what would be involved. http://www.jimbuchananspace.com/Camera_Services.html
It's a great lens, one of the best FD's I have.
