I used to own a Leitz 50/3.5 Elmar and have occasionally regretted selling it. It was one of the sharpest lenses I'd ever owned. I've thought about buying an Industar clone because it's much cheaper than the 50/3.5 Elmar, but I wonder about the Industar's sharpness. The photos I see are certainly great, but it's hard to tell a lens's sharpness from images posted in a forum.
So this question is for those of you have have used both: is the Industar comparable in terms of sharpness to the 50/3.5 Elmar? _________________ Michael

Unfortunately I have never owned an Elmar 50/3.5 to compare, although I really want to. Elmar is better, Industar is cheaper. I guess so... _________________ Regards,

Sorry, as I have already the better Summicron I've never tried the Elmar. However, the Industar is really a capable lens and can be found for apprx. $ 40 in good shape. The Elmar still goes for $ 400 (at least).
Just buy the industar and try it yourself, most probably you will be able to sell it again without losses if it doesn't fulfill your expectations.
My introduction of the Industar can be seen here: http://forum.mflenses.com/kmz-industar-22-50mm-f3-5-rigit-white-m39-ltm-t72542.html _________________ Thomas Bernardy
