Can't see it very clearly but I'd guess a data back for the camera.
Used to record time & date on the film - a primitive form of EXIF Smile

Data back was my guess as well but then I googled databack for pentax camera's and they don't look like that at all Confused
as far as I can tell databacks are just a replacement back door. this looks more like a whole body. Hence why I am confused :p

It's not a data back for the Pentax. It looks to me like a camera body with a data back attached, but what model of camera I have no idea.

That is a Contaflex film back, it's photographed upside down.

The rectangular lens hood is for a Contarex, so the back might be for that camera. Seen in isolation both types look pretty much the same.

Contarex sounds right. I thought it had a Zeiss look about it. by the shape of the body and the round latches
