A really quick stroll down to the river to test the EBC X-Fujinon 50/1.6 so don't expect anything artistic Smile

All pictures taken with Sony NEX-5N and Kiwifotos LMA-FJ.EM adapter. JPG from camera (Vivid 0,0,0).

#1 f1.6 ° ISO 100 ° 1/3200s

#2 f2.8 ° ISO 200 ° 1/3200s

#3 f8 ° ISO 400 ° 1/500s

100% crop of above

#4 f8 ° ISO 100 ° 1/250s

#5 f1.6 ° ISO 100 ° 1/3200s ° Infinity focus

100% crop of above

100% crop of above (seems to suggest that infinity focus is not quite reached)

#6 f2.8 ° ISO 100 ° 1/2000s ° Infinity focus

#7 f8 ° ISO 125 ° 1/320s ° Infinity focus

100% crop of above

#8 f1.6 ° ISO 125 ° 1/640s

100% crop of above

#9 f2.8 ° ISO 100 ° 1/250s

100% crop of above

#10 f8 ° ISO 400 ° 1/100s (at least I thought it was f8 but I wonder)

Colors and contrast seem to be pretty nice. Bokeh looks good in shots 8, and 9. Congrats on your purchase!

Thanks Glenn72, it's always fun to play with new lenses.

There's a strong glow and low contrast at f1.6 and the sharpness isn't really that good either. Everything looks much better at f2.8 and at f8 things start looking good. The colours are nice.

Very fast lenses often glow wide open.
I have the case with Nikkor 1.2/55 and 1.4/50, with the Helios-40 1.5/85 and the cyclop 1.5/85, and with the Samyang 1.4/85.
But when closed a bit, wow !

I've just posted a camparison here :

Interesting, I didn't have the glow and softness with the 1.6/55 wide open. The 1.6/50 replaced it so perhaps they cut costs and make it to a lower specification? It looks like a very good lens though.

I just noticed that the lens/adapter combination does not seem to quite reach reach infinity. Look at the 100% crops of #5 at f1.6

Would this affect the perceived sharpness of an f8 photo?

It would be nice to see a comparison because the 1.6 / 55mm has a very peculiar design. Is it really sharper at 1.6? I haven't measured up the lens tube and magnification ratio, but the 55mm almost looks like one of those early 58mm lenses.

And with respect to Pontus' sample shots: Wow, great sharpness and excellent bokeh in the middle distance. The first shots with a Sony Nex I really liked. One should always keep in mind that those lenses were designed for film photography, i.e. there were greater tolerances for lens errors that will show up in digital photography. A 50mm lens was computated for the middle distance, and infinity might still look "sharp" in film photography. Overall contrast is what counts in landscape shots.

Hello Manichaean.
Welcome aboard and thanks a lot for posting.

I suppose your picture was shot with the Fujinon EBC 1.6/50 lens.
Could you please tell us more about the picture, aperture, and maybe about you ? Very Happy
