I could have gotten a M 100mm f4 Macro for quite less, a M42 S.M.C. 100mm f4 Macro for a bit more than I payed for this one. Orio had recommended the 100mm and I had thought to go for it. But now I try to keep it M42 only and did not want to get the M version and opted for the 50mm over the 100mm for it's much smaller size, also I like that it uses 49mm filter / lens cap.
Now my Takumar collection of S.M.C. resp. SuperTaks of 28, 35, 50, 50 Macro, 105 and 135mm all use the same filter / cap!

hey, all the flower photos were taken handheld, not the one of the lens.
and with my enthusiasm I just decided to do another one, tripod used, of the SuperTak 50mm, where it says: 'ft' and 'm'
thinking that a crop of it would make a good avatar.

no call me crazy, but arent' we all?
anyway, I just now saw this one:
similar to the one I got, but goes to 1:1, is preset and has no S.M.C, as opposed the one I presented here which goes to 1:2.
what do you think?
And if I go for it, anybody has interest in the one I already got, and if so, for how much?

certainly this lens not only for macro,
the duck would have deserved deeper DOF but it was taken wide open just as the second ( at ISO 800 ) since it was quite dark

I really like the older one which is preset - looks weird, which I kinda like. I have the later one in the SMC version. Its pretty good to use just as a standard lens. On my Nikon D70s I often do something similar.... use the Nikkor 55mm f2.8 AF micro as a standard and it turns in some pretty nice shots. Its only in specific circumstances anyway that we need extreme apertures so its not a greta handicap to have a slower lens. Even an f4 _________________ PeterM |

Hallo!
The new generation of DSLR´s are so flexible and if I will have troubles on f4, I take ISO 800 - this is wonderfull, in the analog time, this way was impossible.
I like the lenses, beginning f 2,8 ore more, the are cheaper and mostly sharper -
and not a problem for a modern Cam - (see the todays standard kit aperture - beginns by f3,5)
