P.S. Don't forget the new Trioplan too.

I believe they could have dond a much better job with the sample pictures, 1600 Euros for those results??? Are you out of your mind??

I have a 135 mm prakticar lens that renders as dreamy and hazy as those samples.

Paid 10 GBP with shipping.

Wish them luck with that, but is has a way too steep price IMHO.

1699€ just try to rip off I doubt they will get any success. I not even believe they will produce any lens.

I have one of the Trimagon lenses, and I like it:

Soap Bubble Bokeh by Markus, auf Flickr

It seems - I want to dig a bit deeper in it -like I need much less time for image retouching due to the nice glow.

Yes, like with many very high quality lenses like
Zeiss Lamegon https://www.flickr.com/photos/kds315/6269819300/in/album-72157627938810434/

or Zeiss Othoplanar

You have more money to burn than ... very average result, take any lens in 20 EUR 50 EUR range and will do same.

I like the above photo. It is better than the samples on their official page. Like 1 small

I am hoping they revive the Primoplan.

The pricing does seem on the high side...but if they are actually really made in Germany, by Germans...

I am curious about the optical design of some of their short telephotos...what are these? They look like older Ernostar designs? Not typical planar/gauss??

This is the 85/1,5:

No. The 85/1,5 is a re-branded Helios 40-2. It has 6 elements in 4 groups as mentioned in this website http://www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.com/somnium-f15-85mm/ .

The parts are comes from KMZ but assembled in Germany with 5-year guarantee. Might be this is the reason to pay more for the Meyer one?

No I don't think so.

Thanks for the links, calvin83, and thanks, ZoneV, for the sample. It's curious, the manufacturer claims to have used modern coatings and glass, but the haze persists. Is it always?

Happy shots!

Looks like the MOG site has an error....the lens diagram for the 1,5/85 is the same as shown for the 2/85. I will let them know!

So, then, this is the diagram for the 2/85.....still, it doesn't look like a sonnar or planar design....still looks 'Ernostar-ish' to me?
http://www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.de/figmentum-f20-85mm/

You can get to the lens diagram by clicking thru the samples at the top of the page..

Sorry, the diagram for the 2/85 is wrong too. It has 6 elements in 6 groups only.

BTW, you buy find its sister here for much cheaper.

Thanks for the info!

So the older lenses are reworked Russian and Chinese optics...but with nice barrels and such....that's too bad. It does look like the newer ones (the Trioplans) are actually designed and produced by MOG, hopefully. But they are expensive!

Oh well. I'll stick with Jupiter 8 in M39 for cheap thrills!

The "haze" is the spherical aberration. A main thing in that lens design is some spherical aberration, this creates the glow that helps for women portraits, and gives the special background and smooth foreground bokeh.

Thank you!
I am quite happy with this lens, a sharper alternative to the Trioplan 100. But I have to see how different it is to other lenses. And whats about their special coating which should help portrait photographers.
