Lens with Bokeh like Meyer Trioplan 100/2.8?

Gosh, I get really tired with this thread: Go get a Trioplan if you want those bubbles and don't be so cheap!
Basically that whole thread boils down to just one point: "how can I have it if I can't afford it" Twisted Evil

I'm out...

Yes, it's about "how can I have it if I can't afford it", but I can't see why it is wrong... Personally I already have trioplan 100 and I am posting here to help other people make their decisions. Including those that are on a strict budget. That alone doesn't make them worse...

Well, at least this is how I see it.

This whole forum is about having lenses cheaply vs. modern expensive lenses.... for the most part. I freely admit I cannot pay the large dollars for the big Trioplan. However, my dilemma and struggle is in realizing that I have spent in total much more money on cheaper lenses than would cost fewer very desirable ones. I suppose it is psychological. Nevertheless, it is good to know how other lenses compare.

I have hit the magical bubbles a few times and I continue to study the circumstances needed. We have seen where big Trioplan can also fail to provide the desirable bubbles - Klaus' images from it also largely miss the target. I am coming to the conclusion that smaller - maybe more dim - specular highlights seem to produce them better than very bright and large highlights. I find this true when photographing the smaller twinkles reflected from water. Here are two examples where water provided... first is 50mm Trioplan and second is Domiplan...

I guess what is magical and desirable to some is simply boring, uninspired, banal and unoriginal to others.

Bubbles are one thing, but a picture that has bubbles but also works artistically, is interesting and has some merit is entirely another.

I agree with Klaus, this thread has become tiresome.

Well, there will always be newcomers (like me, hehe Smile ), whoa are interested in the topic. I admit, circles only images are not my goal at all. I am aiming to shoot some beautiful flowers with that kind bokeh, it looks gorgeous. But to create good images like that one needs to know HOW to do it. And as right now all I have in my possession is dirty snow under dull gray sky, I am accumulating the theory. And I am deeply grateful for everyone who gave me some bits of knowledge which I will test as soon as the spring springs out Smile

While I have not had good sunlight or the time to properly test my new Primotar and Telemegor 150&180 lenses. It seems the 150mm may have the most potential for the bubbles, although none are showing them like Trioplan.

vroger: Your FM post was more open to effects than here, but still good. When a topic like this starts, it seems to naturally attract many interpretations and morph into more than the desired target effect. The Diaplan picture in your thread hits the mark perfectly. I hope I can achieve those results with my newly acquired Diaplan.

I just seen this in the MD 35-70/3.5 thread, I didn't think this lens capable of this type of highlight bokeh.

Jupiter-8M (Kiev mount) mounted in reverse:

Softest lens yet (Jupiter-8M) by scepticswe, on Flickr
Not the best example (very few OOF highlights), but definitely some bright outlines on the "bubbles".

Yes, the Oreston and Primoplan both provide wonderful bokeh.

It is well known that diaplans do the job...
The 1.8 80 meyer optik are quite easy to find for cheap... Just search for "filius dia projektor" they come with a geniune Meyer-optiks Gorlitz diaplan.
I got mine for 24€ (shipping included) which is quite a good price.
Adapting it was also rather easy:

and the results are promizing !

Hi,

I find this thread interesting and useful. I have a Trioplan 50/2,9 and I have just tried it with a 12 mm and 32 mm extension tube. The result was not what I wanted exactly, but surprisingly good.

Hello whanna
Really nice results, a kind of transition to bubbles and a very prominent effect.
