As i have a kino 80-200 just waiting for an adapter it obvious i need to compare it to another lens (the wife not so the logic but looks good to me) so how do the rokkor stack up against the vivitar? is there any other similar lenses to keep an eye out for ? i have had a tamy 19ha good lens but would like something i have not had i think of the rokkor as i have a rokkor 35-7- f3.5 and just won a rokkor md 50-135 so the 70-210 will all match ..not that it matters

I prefer my Vivitar S1 70-210 f2.8-4 Komine to my Vivitar S1 70-210 f3.5 Komine, both are excellent but the 2.8 - 4 is smaller, lighter and better to use.
The other zooms in a similar range that I've got that are, in my opinion, genuine competition to the Viv'S1 are my Tokina AT-X SD 80-200 / 2.8 and my beloved Yashica ML 80-200 / 4, which is even smaller than the Vivitar, and possibly sharper. It's a cheap and under rated lens.
I haven't tried the Minolta, but it's a lens that I will get when I see one at the right price. It has a decent reputation, and I like Rokkors.

the Yashica ML 80-200 sounds interesting being smaller as it for a nex specially if its sharper

I had the minota af 70-210 "beercan", and it's a very good lens, one of the best zooms in that range that I've ever had (together with the aforementioned Tamron sp 19AH). I don't know if the rokkor is similar in design, but if it is, it must be good.

AFAIK, the optics are exactly the same in both lenses. I have both and they are excellent.

I have a Rokkor and it is absolutely excellent, Komine version of Vivitar I used to have was nowhere near as good.

There are 2 similar Rokkors, a 70-210 and a 75-200 both are the same optical design shared with Leica, the 210 F4 is supposed to be better at image centre and the 200 F4.5 better at edges, I have both of the Rokkors and the series one F2.8 but have never done a comparison indeed I can't remember the last time I used them, in my defence as some of you may be aware my health prohibits me getting out and about much especially with the heavier lenses lol, will probably have to move them on at sometime.

so if the 70-210 is sharper at the center is probably better on a cropped censer then
