In a sense, the telephoto lenses are the most friendly and easy to use lenses. The shallow depth of field allows, for example, that a distracting background be eliminated or minimized. On the other hand, photos taken with telephoto lenses require faster shutter speeds and a very precise focus, what generates a higher percentage of missed shots, especially for action shots in low light. The difficulty of using telephoto lenses in these conditions led lens manufacturers to develop the two most important photographic technologies after the digital sensor: the auto focus and image stabilization.
