As manual and (often) old photographic equipment lovers, even if digital is, for many (but not all) of us, the main medium, we are often faced with great old equipment that can only be used with film.

Unfortunately, film is becoming less and less popular after the digital advent. This puts at risk many great photo cameras and equipment that can only work with film. Equipment that often is of much better build quality than today's digital equipment, and comes at a fraction of the price.

The purpose of this gallery is to show that these old tools, used with today's high definition and quality films, can produce stunning images, that have nothing to be ashamed about in comparison with digital images.

We hope that this forum will help many understand how good can be those old film cameras and how it is important to rescue both them and films themselves from being lost forever.

Printing your own B&W films with an enlarger at home is a real thrill, that all photographers should try at least once in their lifetime. Since today darkroom equipment are available second-hand for very low prices, a darkroom is not a thing for few anymore. Everyone can afford one, and we hope that this gallery will convince you to get one!

So to post in this gallery, I have to make my own BW prints and scan them?

No.
I have realized that this way, the forum is too restrictive.
So I will change it and open up to direct scans of negatives also.

Orio, after seeing your stunners and the new guy emco's post with the
Rollei SL66, thinking about doing this myself. The first hurdle is processing
the BW negs.

In photography the most important thing is what you want to say.
your story. your style.
b&w processed, digital, photoshop editing - their are only the tools, means
that helps you to tell your own story, impressions.
the main rule is: simplify, make your story claen and plain. don't babble.
Just do it.

To clearly explain.
There are 3 images.
Two are real scan of very good platinium contact prints.
One of them is pure CG, completely generated by 3D application -
just only look like pure platinium print.
Which one?



Everyone could be.
Conclsion - do what you are good at.
Digital? analog? manual? - it dosn't matter.

#2 is awesome, but then, you already know this...CG? 1 and 3 look like
they could be scanned from prints.

3 is pure platinum print?

The "digital generation", especially those who have never been involved with traditional, or "real" photography as many of us still refer to it. is missing out on so much of the true joys and challenges that film brings. I have never gotten excited or really feel like I have truly made something waiting for my printer to crank out a "picture", but watching that print "magically" appear in a tray of Dektol still excites me after over 40 years. I wish I had a dollar for each of the times I have seen people post on forums that film photography is "old school" or dead, only to find out that they have either never done it or their only exposure to it is taking color snapshots on holidays and taking them to the drug store for processing. They have immediately lost any and all credibility as far as I am concerned.
