I just got my M39-EF adapter from Hong Kong and thought i'd try out my Industar-26M. I had every intention of using it only as a macro lens, at least until i pick up an FED-2 or another M39 rangefinder.

On to the test photos! All were shot at f/2.8, shutter speed 1/60, and ISO 250 on the 7D.

I-26M set at Infinity Focus

I-26M set at <1 meter (minimum focusing distance)

And for the sake of comparison:

Super-Takumar 1.4/50 at 0.45 meters (minimum focusing distance)

Helios 44 at <0.5 meters (minimum focusing distance)

Focal 2.8/28 at <1 foot (minimum focusing distance)

I know I went a little overboard with the comparison shots, but I couldn't help myself. Actual shots (as in "not-test-shots") to come soon!
What do you think?

I-26m is a good lens good as any 50mm lenses not worst not better than most of them I think.

i havent tested out the I-26m in a "real world" application yet, but i plan on doing that tomorrow (i'll post the pictures in this thread when i do). so far it seems to be as you have said: not terrible, not fantastic". the comparison was more to show just how close i could get with it as macro lens compared to how close i could get with any of my other lenses.

The close up shots look soft, which matches my experience of trying a Jupiter-8 on an SLR.

I recently purchased an LTM adapter for MFT and I tested an Industar 26M on my E-PL2. It is very competent. The following shots are taken at f/2.8 - maybe a bit stopped down, as I may have accidentally bumped the aperture ring a bit:

As with all Soviet lenses there appears to be a great deal of sample variation. The images I have had from my FED2+Industar-26m have always surprised me. Have a look at my flickr photo stream or postings in the BW gallery here.

I found them to perform very consistently. I have more than one sample for several models and I didn't notice any variation other than that introduced by previous mishandling. In one case, a lens had been disassembled and reassembled incorrectly - but optically it was as good as new. It's about damage, not sample variation.

I added you as a contact on flickr.

I recently aquired this lens, too. It's a later model without aperture knob and a round focusing ring. There are no signs of my copy ever being used and it looks beautiful. Apart from some dust particles, the glass looks pristine. However, I was extremely dissapointed when I took it out for a walk on my Olympus E-PM1. It's not only unsharp, but completely useless for taking photographs. Examples are below, I just couldn't take more than a few photos. Is it just a bad copy or could it be a result of some kind of damage?

Edit. Okay, I wasted my time to write this post and now this forum doesn't show any links. Forget about it.

That is just because it is your first post. It is a measure against spam. As soon as you make a second one your pictures can be posted and seen as from everyone else!
So welcome here and do another try please.

Here they are. It is an anti spam measure, you have to post twice for your links to show. Smile

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your lens, it does look like something is out of alignment to me, like a loose element or group.
