How would one use such a lens these days?

I used an anamorphic adapter to shoot some ultra wide video footage for a music video: getting out of the usual 16:9/4:3 boxes is fun, and many love the peculiar flare such adapters create.

These days, anamorphic lenses are used for video or sometimes photography fro get cinema look. You can read here more about that http://www.eoshd.com/. Anamorphic lenses are very expensive, so there is possibility to mount this kind of lens on top of camera lens and get same effect.

I know how it would be used, but in the old days it would be put on the projector to show the film. I did it, I was making widescreen stereo sound 8mm films back in the mid 70's. How would you view a video that has the image compressed laterally? Use a projector?
