These are some pictures with the Canon nFD 50mm f/1.4 from the tremendous glass museum at Eskesehir.
I had bought this lens two years ago and was surprised how much I've liked it since. It's become my current favourite: sharp wide-open, very little SA and CA, lovely bokeh character without being distracting, quite a bit of 3D pop, and joyous handling.
All pictures are full-frame and wide-open. Some claim that either the nFD or the old FD SSC were superior. Canon describes them to be identical optically, i.e. one of the designs that just got a new barrel with the introduction of nFD. I don't own the SSC, but separately tried one once and I have seen lots of samples with both and find that if there are any differences, they are purely academic. Personally, I chose the nFD deliberately because it is lighter.

I have three of the SSC version, but none of the New version. I am just the opposite from kathala -- I prefer the extra mass because that means more metal, thus it's likely to last longer. Having said that, however, I have owned nFD lenses for many years and have never had a problem with fragility with any of them. I guess I just like the extra heft is all.

Why do I have three? Because they came with cameras I bought. I've owned more than three, sold the others, but I found that what they sold for ended up being not worth the bother, so I just decided to keep the rest.

Very nice pictures Like 1

In fact, the SSC and nFD versions (I've got both) might have a similar optical design but the elements are not identical, given that the diameter of the lenses in the nFD decreased in order to make it smaller.
